I don’t know whether it was the busy holiday season or post-election angst but fewer people took the So You Think You Know Boston Quiz 3 than the previous quizzes.

The Correct Responses to Boston Quiz 3
If you did take the quiz, you should have seen the correct answers. If you did not, here are the right responses:
Question 1
Which entertainer has appeared more often at Gillette Stadium than any other?
Answer: Kenny Chesney. Most people got this one right. Aerosmith came in second.
Question 2
The statue of a woman and little girl that stands against the west wing of the Massachusetts State House depicts:
Answer: Anne Hutchinson with one of her daughters.
Anne Hutchinson has been called America’s Founding Mother and not just because she had 19 pregnancies and 18 children. To learn more about Anne Hutchinson, I recommend reading “American Jezebel” by Eve LaPlante. The statue was sculpted by Cyrus Dallin.
Most folks gave a correct answer.
Question 3
The cast-iron fence and granite gate in front of Old Granary Burying Ground was built in:
Answer: Although the burying ground itself was first used in 1660, the fence and gate, designed by Isaiah Rogers, went up much later. I made this one a bit tricky but respondents were on to me and got the answer right by an overwhelming number.
Question 4
The corner of Park Street and Tremont Street in front of the Park Street Church is known as:
Answer: The correct answer is Brimstone Corner. This corner acquired this name because, during the War of 1812, Bostonians stored gunpowder in the church’s crypt. Granary Place, a name I made up, got the most votes, however.
Question 5
The only mural cycle in North American painted by French artist Pierre Puvis de Chavannes can be seen in:
Answer: Although the majority of answers were evenly divided between the Boston Public Library and the Boston Athenaeum, the murals reside in the BPL’s Central Branch. You can see them as you walk up the main staircase.
Question 6
Before she founded the Church of Christ Scientist in 1879, Mary Baker Eddy belonged to which faith:
Answer: Although most folks chose Methodist, Ms. Eddy was originally Congregationalist.
Question 7
A miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus hangs in a chapel in this church:
Answer: I made this one a bit tricksy and it showed in the answers. The correct answer is Our Lady of Perpetual Help but that church is better known as Mission Church because it sits on Mission Hill. More people chose the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, possibly because they didn’t know Mission Church’s official name.
Question 8
Logan International Airport was built on land that was created around these three islands in Boston Harbor:
Answer: This one also confused folks and answers landed all over the Harbor. Eventually, however, the majority chose the correct answer of Apple Island, Governor’s Island and Bird Island.
Question 9
The No Name Restaurant served seafood meals on Boston’s Fish Pier for:
Answer: Time flies and events often seem to have occurred more recently than they actually did. Something similar occurred with this question because most people picked 80 years. But the correct answer was 107 years. The No Name was around longer than you think.
Question 10
The granite obelisk on the north side of Fort Independence memorializes:
Answer: Most respondents must have been visualizing the British Evacuating Boston but the actual answer is Donald McKay, the man who invented the Clipper Ship and built the fastest ships in the world for that time.
A plaque on the monument states:
DONALD MCKAY
1810 – 1880
“Master builder, whose genius produced ships of a beauty and speed before unknown, which swept the seven seas, made the American clipper ship famous the world over, and brought renown and prosperity to the city of Boston.”
The plaque includes Mr. McKay’s profile and the hull of the Flying Cloud, one of his most famous ships.
I admit to creating answers designed to confuse or trick the reader. It’s fun for me and challenging for my readers. Usually, however, it surprises me how many answers people get correctly most of the time.
