Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgivukkah, BuzzFeed

The Next Phase blog is not published today, Thanksgiving. We all have a lot to be thankful for this year, even though it may not always seem that way.

Here are some holiday posts and posts about cooking that are as applicable this year as they were in previous years.

Don’t just eat and watch The Game on TV. Start your own 30 days of Thankfulness. Here are some suggestions:

  • Do some cleaning up without any having to tell  you that it needs to be done.
  • Get the kids out of the house so the cook can concentrate.
  • Bring a bottle of good wine (or two or three) as hostess gift.
  • Set the table without waiting for someone to tell you.
  • Don’t argue about politics at the table.
  • Don’t argue about sports at the table.
  • Let someone else have the last piece of pie.
  • Take charge so the cook take a nap.
  • Help out cleaning up after the big meal and give your spouse something to be thankful for.
  • No Shopping on Thanksgiving, I pledge to not shop on ThanksgivingAbove all, DON’T SHOP ON THANKSGIVING!
Those store employees deserve a family holiday, too, but they wont’ get one until customers stop coming and it’s not economically viable for them to open.

Fortunately more stores have jumped on the holiday bandwagon. Here’s a list of stores that are closed on Thanksgiving. REI is closed the next day, too, so it’s employees can spend the day outside. Hooray!
