We all know the quote:

If anyone ever doubted the veracity of Lord Acton’s quote, all you have to do is read today’s headlines. The Epstein Scandal may bring down government officials, political leaders, financial titans, entertainment magnates, strategic advisors, law firm partners, the smartest guy in the room and, perhaps, an entire administration.

We can only hope.

We all know that money and power are connected. Think of someone who gets ahead because another person put in a good word, made a suggestion, or twisted an arm. It might have been his father, her grandfather’s lawyer, his college roommate’s dad, his frat brother’s lawyer, her sorority sister’s uncle, or his dad’s law firm partner. Anyone with sufficient reach, who knows the right person, or who can create some financial pressure will do.

What Happens Behind the Scenes

This all happens behind the scenes, of course. The poor sap who wants to make it on his own merits never knows why he didn’t get that job. The naïve young actor never realizes why she wasn’t cast in the perfect role. A wink and a nod is all it takes to skew the results. We just learned, for example, that Jeffrey Epstein helped get Woody Allen’s daughter into Bard College.

The rich and privileged don’t talk about worse corruption except in an oblique way. They protect themselves with silence, deferral, lies, denial, and outright criminal behavior. They support one another.

But most of us never knew it was worse than that. Of course, most of us could never imagine a scenario as bad as the one we’re learning about now.

It’s Really This Bad

The more we hear and see from the first tranche of Epstein materials, the more revolted we become. The scope of their actions, their assumptions, their expectations and their privilege boggles the normal mind. The fact that many of the perpetrators are family men with wives and daughters, nieces and granddaughters makes it even worse.

So, I’m going to use a word that I haven’t heard anyone else use either online, in print, or on the TV. Sadism. These men are sadists.

How do I know this? Because their behavior says so. How could their actions be anything else? How could a man rape a 10-year-old child who is crying and screaming and begging for him to stop unless he enjoyed it? All of it. The sex is one thing. The power over a little girl who just wants the pain to end is something else altogether. The begging and pleading tweak his lust.

That’s the very definition of sadism.

Moving On Up with Epstein

Now I have to ask what comes next. We have already been faced with how the rich and greedy satisfy their need for more. When you have already bought whatever obscene wealth allows you to purchase; when you own mansions, yachts, private jets, limited-edition sports cars, private islands, luxurious limousines, the most expensive wines, membership in ultra exclusive clubs, jewels to make Ali Baba jealous, and at least one trophy wife, where do you go next?

You go up, of course. These men will buy a government, a judicial system, a tax code and overseas regime changes that benefit them.

Beyond that, we come to personal gratifications. Those little indulgences get more depraved as time passes and power accumulates. The Epstein papers document how the rich and shameless work their way through the list of depravities. We know they have already committed:

• Kidnapping
• Sex trafficking and slavery
• Child rape and other forms of pedophilia
• Torture
• Murder (If there is a single American who thinks Jeffrey Epstein really took his own life, please raise your hand)

What Comes Next with Epstein

So, what comes next? Necrophiia? Cannibalism? (There are rumors Epstein already went there.) Hunting human prey? Satanic rituals? I’m afraid my imagination doesn’t go beyond those—and I have a pretty good imagination.

Have America’s rich and revolting already committed these crimes? What else lurks in the three million documents recently released by the U.S. Dept. of Injustice? What is hiding in the three million more that have not yet been released?

I have already admitted that I will never understand why a grown man wants to have sex with a child. It is a deviant behavior that goes beyond rational explanations for normal people. Unless it’s for the crying and screaming and the power to make another human being beg for mercy.

Sadists. All of them. And worse.
