Why I Blog

When my last full-time job went away in a marketing restructuring, I decided that it was time to let go of the work world and retire. Fortunately, I was able to do so for a variety of reasons. Then it was time to restructure my own life. For a while my time was occupied with downsizing from the family home in suburban Sudbury to a 50+ condo community in Hudson. Once the move was complete, I had to decide what to do with the next phase of my life. I settled on several things and writing a blog was one of them.

But that doesn’t answer the question of why I blog.  When I started The Next Phase, a friend asked me why I had decided to write such a thing. The answer was that I have a lot of opinions and I’m interested in a lot of things. Because I began my career as a copywriter and have written two published novels, I find writing easy and fun.  A blog pulls those two things together well.

On the left side of the home page, you’ll see a list of the categories that I write about. In some I have direct experience, like technology marketing and books. Others are areas in which I am interested and which I read about. My husband and I see a lot of movies and people often ask me what we have seen lately that we like. So that’s a natural topic for posts.

I know this broad approach violates the first rule of blogging, which is to pick an area and become a specialist in that area. But I enjoy writing about too many subjects to confine myself to just one.

I hope you enjoy reading The Next Phase and I encourage you to add comments or write to me and let me know what you think.

  1. love your museum list. Check out the Fuller Craft Museum — when they have a good exhibit, it’s a real gem. And the new Whitney is lovely, but you probably already know that…

    • We haven’t been to the new Whitney yet, Amy, but that’s on my list. First, though, I want to get back to Europe now that the exchange rate is more favorable.
