Nuclear Tweets and Alzheimer’s Symptoms

Yesterday, Donald Trump, President of the United States, tweeted this:

Donald Trump, nuclear button, Kim Jong Un, nuclear button tweet

Immediately, commentators, news anchors, columnists and other pundits began wondering whether he understood the gravitas of his office and the true impact of a nuclear strike.

The New York Times commented:

“The president’s tone also generated a mix of scorn and alarm among lawmakers, diplomats and national security experts who called it juvenile and frightening for a president handling a foreign policy challenge with world-wrecking consequences. The language was reminiscent of Mr. Trump’s boast during the 2016 presidential campaign that his hands, and by extension his genitals, were in fact big enough.”

The Washington Post called it “loony.” CNN described it as, “a measuring contest provoked by the President of the United States against an unstable dictator pursuing a nuclear capacity. Politico says he has returned to “his full combative form.” The Wall Street Journal typically reported the Tweet without comments.

Many are wondering why any occupant of the White House and holder of the most powerful office in the world would say such a tacky, inflammatory, and irresponsible thing to the leader of another country, much less a leader who is himself not well balanced. I am not a doctor; I am not qualified to make a diagnosis.  But I can observe behavior and connect the dots.

Knowing the Alzheimer’s Symptoms

Before I forget, I want to write my last piece for “The Next Phase” of 2015, which is now my first article for 2016, as I did not finish it until New Year’s Day, about Alzheimer’s Disease. Most people blanch when talking about Alzheimer’s Disease, and with good reason. It, something it has affected, or both, are fatal 100% of the time.Many people associate Alzheimer’s Disease only with loss of memory but it manifests in many more ways. Here are 10 early signs and symptoms from the Alzheimer’s Association:

  1. Memory loss that disrupts daily life
  2. Challenges in planning or solving problems
  3. Difficulty in completing familiar tasks, at home, at work or at leisure
  4. Confusion with time or place
  5. Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships
  6. New problems with words in speaking and writing
  7. Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps
  8. Decreased or poor judgment
  9. Withdrawal from work or social activities
  10. Changes in mood and personality

What we observed with a family member is that, under stress, she sometimes lashed out in bursts of anger, make inappropriate comments to anyone in the vicinity, and become very devious while attempting to cover up her memory loss. Alzheimer’s sufferers may become very suspicious and suffer from delusions and can be easily agitated.

Alzheimer’s Disease is also genetic: your chances of developing it increase by up to four times if a parent or sibling has the disease. President Trump’s father, Fred, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when he was 80.

My Point – and I Do Have One

The White House at Dawn, insomnia, Alzheimer's Disease, Donald TrumpHere’s my point: irrational behavior comes from irrational people. Rational people do not threaten nuclear war like they are comparing genitals or the size of the bicycles Santa brought. We need to know—and as soon as possible—whether President Trump’s mental state renders him fit to hold the office.

We have reason for concern, based on those Alzheimer’s symptoms and signs:

  • Mr. Trump’s vocabulary has been shrinking and he uses the same words over and over. He often doesn’t complete the sentence he started or says things that make no sense—most recently demonstrated in his interview with the New York Times.
  • He has been documented as not knowing that Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are part of the United States.
  • He is on video as not knowing who is with him, or even that the limo at the bottom of Air Force One’s steps is his.
  • He avoids the demands of his very demanding job by playing golf more often than any president in modern history and taking his briefings from Fox News instead of his security teams.
  • In terms of social act ivies, he held no state dinners in his first year and only one press conference. We now know that goes to bed at the same time as a toddler and watches TV, while claiming to work until midnight.
  • Despite having the White House chef at his disposal, he often eats a McDonald’s hamburger because, reportedly, the food is already prepared so it minimizes his chances of being poisoned.

The Big Checkup

Next Friday, POTUS is getting his annual checkup and the doctor has said he will make the results public. This would give me great hope, except that the President must consent to which details are released and to whom.

In December of 2015, Dr. Harold Bornstein, Mr. Trump’s physician of 25 years, said this in a signed statement that is atypical of the guarded language doctors typically use.

“If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency,”

Dr. Ronny Jackson, the White House physician, will conduct this year’s physical exam at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I would expect Dr. Jackson to perform the kind of mental test that doctors typically use on a patient of the President’s age—particularly one whose father developed Alzheimer’s Disease.

Mine gave me a list of words and asked me to remember them. Later in the exam, I had to repeat them back. I had no problem so I don’t know what Step Two is for someone who can’t remember the words.

Revelation or Protection?

man with head in the sandThe White House staffers and a complacent Congress continue to protect this president, the way Republicans protected Ronald Reagan in his second term.

Given the stakes, the American public needs to know who is leading them and what his mental state may be.

A president who experiences delusions and bouts of spontaneous aggression, who unravels under stress and whose judgment is decreasing endangers us all.

  1. David – I addressed Aline’s points in the blog with my own observations. I did not get my data from the media or any news publication. They are my observations based on data I have from the Alzheimer’s Association, conversations with my Dad’s geriatric MD, and sister’s neurologist. They are not political, they are drawn from my experiences as care giver to my father, who has dementia, and my younger sister who has advanced Alzheimer’s. For the past six years I have lived closely with two people at watched their cognitive decline. POTUS exhibits many of the documented symptoms. I know more about these two conditions than I ever wanted to. As my family members stated when both began to show signs of this disease “something’s not right”. Please do not politicize or label me for that.

    • So let’s circle back to the basic point. You say the media shows you these symptoms?

      Does it not register that the media – let alone the Deep State – is utterly obsessed with Trump and bringing him down? Would they lie about that?

      Do ice cubes melt in Hell?

      I do not trust them. Period. As far as I am concerned, anything they say is a lie, including the words “if, and, and but”. So whatever they say about Trump’s behaviors and acuity, I don’t believe it.

      And those psychiatrists remote-diagnosing Trump? How… Soviet of them. To them I’d ask “Пропав старые времена, товарищ?”

  2. One other thought about my “bullets” comment:

    I don’t want a hot civil war. I don’t want a cold civil war. I want the ability to peacefully voice my opposition to abortion without being called a misogynist and anti-woman, and to have a discussion. Same thing with my opposition to affirmative action, welfare, mass immigration, multiculturalism, gun control, gay marriage, etc., without being called a racist, a bigot, a homophobe, and so on. Because it’s in that discussion, without invective, where ideas come up and are measured, modified, improved… and people learn.

    I used to be pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-multiculturalism, pro-gay marriage, pro-affirmative action, pro, well, probably everything you’re pro. I have no doubt you’ll recognize that, despite our differences, that I’m an intelligent and educated person. Others know that too. Yet I’m not even allowed to make my case or discuss what changed my views without RAAAAACIST! being screamed at me.

    I have a different opinion than you, as do tens of millions of other normal, educated, non-bigoted people. Sadly, there are bigots out there too, but seeing the anti-white, anti-American, etc., rhetoric from the Left, I’ll say there are bigots on the Left as well. I’ve read about people, including a tenured professor, hoping for “White genocide.” I’ve seen signs calling for “Hamas! Hamas! Jews to the gas!” without these people being even called-out by the Left.

    Sometimes we may cite Voltaire: “I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

    If we can’t speak, if we can’t cite evidence for our side, if we are smeared Frankfurt School-style as being outside the room of debate because we don’t agree with the Left… then it WILL come to bullets eventually. You (collectively) cannot call tens of millions of people who disagree with you bigots, racists, etc., people who are actually no such thing, and not engender resentment and anger.

    Aline, you once asked me how it is to be angry all the time. I’m not. But if I point out, wanting to save black lives, that the #1 cause of black homicide is other blacks, to the tune of 90% – with shootings by white cops being a pittance of the remaining figure – and pointing out that the “Great Society” destroyed black families and created the environment for young black men to grow up without fathers… I’m trying to SAVE blacks. But I’m called a racist. If I point out that there are places in America where Planned Parenthood – founded by a virulent racist – aborts more than 50% of black children, I’m not only called a racist but a sexist… I’m trying to SAVE blacks. And whites. And Hispanics. And Asians.

    So I repeat, I intend to stand on the tracks and yell STOP. Because, if I can’t – if my views are not even entertained and weighed and answered with other speech in a discussion, but instead silenced by accusations of things I know I am not guilty of… then yes, it will come to civil war. Once more: this is a thing I don’t want, but as former red-diaper baby David Horowitz pointed out, the Left are missionaries for Socialism.

    To take a meme from General Mattis: I may disagree with you but I am open to debate. I am pleading with you, with tears in my eyes, do not push my side to the point where we come to the conclusion, a la Star Trek’s Omega Glory: “We do not talk with Kohms, they are only for killing.”

    • David, Your comments are certainly valuable but they are not relevant to my blog. You want to debate items here that I have not addressed and will not address. Please air them on a blog or website where they are more pertinent to the subject matter.

  3. Mental deterioration does not recognize a policitcal party or see a D or and R after the individuals name. The early symptoms of Alzheimer’s and the first phase of the disease are challenging and heart-wrenching. As it progresses it demands a level of care no one anticipates. POTUS exhibits symptoms of cognitive decline that can’t be ignored.

    Trump is a polarising idividual who creates a love him/hate him spectrum of emotion. Whatever your political views, look at the symptoms and ask the questions. Those of us who have lived through it know what lies ahead. You can claim Republican bias or say its just who DJT is, but it we must also acknowledge that it could be be something more.

  4. Well, the little stick approach and “soft power” negotiations from two terms of Bill “The Blue Dress” Clinton and two terms of Barack “I’ll have more flexibility after my re-election” Obama worked so well, didn’t they?

    But to the main point of your piece, Aline… you on the Left said the same thing about Reagan.

    http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/01/it_would_be_cheaper_and_more_efficient_if_the_msm_just_reprinted_old_material_about_reagan.html

    You called George W. Bush, a man who got an MBA from Harvard and flew a fighter jet early in his life while Obama handed out forms and was the first Harvard Law Review editor to never publish a law review, an idiot.

    So just come out and say it. Unless someone has a “D” after their name, you hate them.

    And don’t get me started on Felonia von Pantsuit and her collapse in NYC, plus her doctors notes from 2013 showing she had problems. This doctor better go on record – STAT! – that she’s not depressed or suicidal.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2017/12/31/hillary-clintons-personal-doctor-lied-sick-2016/

    Trump was not my first choice, but…

    * Paris accord, ditched
    * American military strength, respected
    * Jerusalem recognized as Israel’s capitol
    * Fakestinian aid threatened (please!)
    * UN told off
    * Drill baby drill
    * Illegal immigration down
    * Islamic Hijra reduced
    * ISIS decimated
    * Taxes cut, regulations choking the economy slashed, jobs booming
    * It’s OK to say “Merry Christmas” again

    http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/01/note_to_nevertrumps_trumps_character_is_admirable.html

    And the more you on the Left hate him, the more I like him. What’s next, a Shining-like post, a la “All work and no play” of “I hate Trump! I hate Trump! I hate Trump!” ?

    • The point of my post, David, is that the man is suffering from mental deterioration. As was Ronald Reagan in the last years of his second term. I don’t hate Republicans. I have even voted for a few. But if you are not concerned about a man who, as I heard this morning, does not recognize old friends when he sees them at Mar-a-Lago, you are living in a bubble. Regardless of party or ideology, we need a president who is compos mentis. My husband and I dealt with Alzheimer’s with my mother in law and I know firsthand that it can be pretty scary in a lot of ways. No one of either party should accept this kind of mental deterioration in the White House.

      • Aline and Susanne:

        Is this true, or did you see it on the Clinton News Network, or read it in the New York Times-Traitor or Washington Post-Fabricator, or did you listen to it on National Progressive Radio? Like about half the country, I think the enemedia are just so obsessed with Trump they’re outright making sh*t up. No, not think – know.

        https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/curtis-houck/2018/01/04/cnns-situation-room-spends-over-20-minutes-insinuating-trump

        https://legalinsurrection.com/2018/01/confirmed-trump-haters-will-believe-anything-gorilla-channel-edition/

        Even that new book is already getting ripped.

        http://coldfury.com/index.php/2018/01/06/blockbuster-blockbuster-blockbusterrrrr/

        http://www.businessinsider.com/michael-wolff-note-says-he-doesnt-know-if-trump-book-is-all-true-2018-1

        https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/kyle-drennen/2018/01/05/wolff-journalists-clothing-i-said-whatever-was-necessary-get-story

        If there were a big media meeting and some nice jihadist screamed “Allahu akhbar!” and killed every single senior journalist gathered there… I’d be torn between condemning the massacre, and wanting him to get the Congressional Medal of Freedom for service to the country. And honestly, I’d lean towards the latter.

        But never mind. The treasonous enemedia are destroying themselves. They’re Ahab to Trump’s whale, and watching them destroying themselves is a beauteous thing.

        • David: Please stop sending links to your radical, right-wing hate-speech sites. I will not read these articles. As a former journalist, I hold them in very low regard. You may not read mainstream media publications but they have real journalists who do not make up the news. (I know you disagree. Don’t bother arguing the point.) I don’t always agree with how they allocate their air time or what articles they choose to publish but they do not lie on print or on the air. I read The Wall Street Journal (no liberal publication), The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Boston Globe. I watch CNN, CBS, and NBC. Fox News only when I’m on the treadmill at the gym. I get my news from a variety of sources that do not use terms like “libtards” or “enemedia.” And while I dislike most of Trump’s administration and fear what he is doing to the country, I do not wish death to anyone.

          • American Thinker is “hate speech”? Have you ever read it? Newsbusters is “hate speech”? Legal Insurrection is run by a Jewish law professor. This sounds like William F Buckley Jr. and his quote: “Liberals love to talk about being open to other views, but are shocked to discover there are other views.”

            (Try being a pro-life person around here.)

            More to the point, we’re in a civil war. Bullets may not be flying, yet, but when someone like Ben Shapiro or Milo go to give a speech and thugs shut him down (let alone riot and start fires), we’re in a very dangerous place.

            And while you might not like the sources I cite, the NYTT, WPF, etc., have been caught red-handed time after time flat-out inventing things. But that’s a long-standing tradition. We lost Vietnam because Cronkite abused his authority in his infamous broadcast about the Tet Offensive which he spun 180 from a massive defeat of the VC to a defeat of the Americans.

            I understand that you may no longer want my comments on your site; that’s fair. But I intend to – like WFB Jr. – to stand in the way of the American Left and yell STOP. Because if I don’t use words, sooner or later it’s going to come to bullets. I don’t want that.

          • Once again, David, avoid the point of the post, which is not politics, policies, or even the news media. The topic of the post is the mental state of our Commander in Chief and whether his behavior is cause for concern. I, along with a growing number of people, think that it is. A good number of those people are mental health professionals. We worry about a person suffering from dementia, which includes delusions and irrational behavior, having our entire nuclear arsenal at his disposal. If you want to comment on that, have at it. Otherwise, please desist.
